Wolter Wierbos, trombone Like many Dutch brass players Wierbos started out in a brass
band, switching from trumpet to trombone when he was 17. His interests range from
chamber jazz to post punk and contemporary composed and improvised music. He is
equally at home using the classic trombone vocabulary or enthusiastically giving a round-trip
tour of his horn. Over the years his playing has gained more depth, his tone has become
more centered, his stories simpler, more relaxed. He achieves more with less.
Besides a solo career, Wierbos is active with ICP, Gerry Hemingway Quintet, Bik Bent
Braam, Albrecht Maurer Trio Works, Hübsch’s Longrun Development of the Universe, Frank
Gratkowski Quartet, Available Jelly and Sean Bergin’s MOB.
Wierbos’ running project Wollo’s World brings together different musical combinations, from
duos to larger groups, from free jazz to world impro.
Wierbos has released three solo CDs: X Caliber, Wierbos and 3Trombone Solos.
